Club Update 26/06/12

Thanks to everyone who came on our Ivel Trip on Sunday, everyone had a great day and we’ll do it again in August so don’t worry if you missed out this time.  Meanwhile, over the next few weeks we have plenty going on with something to suit every level of paddling:

Sunday 1st July

10:00 Normal Lake Session – Sunday sessions have been very popular and don’t forget its first come first served on all kit

14:00 Nene Trip – Nick is running this trip to the Nene Whitewater Centre, Northampton, NN4 7AA.  We can meet either at the Aquadrome at 12:00 to sort cars and share the cost of travel, or at 14:00 at the Centre.  This trip is suitable for paddlers of 2 star standard or above who are confident on Symonds Yat Rapids, The Coy Carp, the Ivel wiers or anything similar.  More details about the centre can be found at http://www.nenewhitewatercentre.co.uk/ and please come prepared with the attached Nene forms.  Club boats can be used at no cost, however the Nene charge £12 per adult and £9 per child.

Afterwards, if you would like to join us for a well deserved dinner at The Brittania, right next to the course http://www.chefandbrewer.com/pub/britannia-northampton/c0080/ then please let me know so I can book a table.

Sunday 8th July

09:00 Lake Session – We’ll start to work our way through the one star syllabus on the lake, this session is suitable for all of our beginners and anyone who would like to practice their skills

10:30 Coy Carp Trip – We’ll meet at the Aquadrome, paddle down to the Coy Carp where we can practice our moving water skills i.e. breaking in/out and ferry gliding on the slalom course.  We’ll have time for some lunch at the Coy Carp before paddling back to the Aquadrome.  This trip is suitable for anybody who is happy to paddle for 2+ hours, has passed the spray deck test and would like to practice some moving water skills.

Sunday 15th July

10:00 Lake Session – This is in the diary as a normal lake session but if there is anything you would like to cover then just let me know!

Saturday 21st / Sunday 22nd July

Nick is running a trip to North Wales with the Dee on Saturday, meeting at JJs in Llangollen at 10am and the Tryweryn on Sunday.  This trip is suitable for anyone of 3 star standard.  Please note this trip has moved from 14/15th July.

Sunday 22nd July

We’re looking for a couple of volunteers to run the lake session – so if you fancy getting into coaching then here is your chance 🙂

Wednesdays

Don’t forget, we meet at 6pm each Wednesday

Kit

We’ve had a lot of new members joining the club and trying out kayaking which means we are a little short of kit.  If you have any old kit lying around the house which you can donate to the club (on a permanent basis) it will be very welcome: spray decks, cags, buoyancy aids, buoyancy bags, boats, paddles etc.  Don’t worry about the condition, we can do repairs.

Please let me know if you will be joining us on the Nene or Tryweryn and if you have any spaces for boats or people so we can share the cost of travel.  If you would like to know more about the trips then I’ll be at the club on Wednesday and Sunday, or you can drop me an email.

See you all soon!
