Hello Nomads!
A successful weekend for Nomad Kayak Club; both at the Rickmansworth Festival and at the Canoe Polo League play-offs in Llanelli 🙂

Canal Festival Success
Many thanks to the 40 members who came down and supported/promoted the club at this year’s Rickmansworth Festival.

Whether out paddling on the lake or back at the clubhouse running the BBQ or engaging with the public on the front desk, an enjoyable time was had by all.

Across both days, our ‘Come & Try’ sessions proved popular with 66 participants taking to the water, many for the first time. And with a long list of people wanting to try kayaking, it looks as if membership numbers are set to grow this summer.

Nomad A Team Promotion
Meanwhile, down in Llanelli on Sunday morning Nomad A successfully competed in the league play-offs for the chance to play in division one next season.

Congratulations to Nomad A on your promotion to Division One!

Updated Trips Calendar
Please note these changes to last week’s trips programme. As always the trips webpage has full, up to date trips information.

Due to a surge of interest, Anthony Sterling’s Symond’s Yat trip in June is back on and Matt’s Wey trip is postponed. This means that together with Peter Scott’s Hurley trip and the north Wales trips the club is running *four coached skills development trips* at all levels for Nomad members this summer. Don’t miss these opportunities if you want to improve your skills.

18th-19th June – Symond’s Yat river trip and rapids with Anthony Sterling

Symond’s Yat is the perfect place for anyone who can paddle competently on flat water to learn moving water skills. Anthony will be leading a weekend of paddling including a river trip and paddling Symond’s Yat grade 2 rapids. Accommodation will be camping near the rapids or you can go down for the day. Contact Anthony at anthony@nomadkayakclub.co.uk or on Facebook for further details.

9th-10th July – Dee and/or Tryweryn (upper and lower) with Anthony Sterling

If you want to move up to grade 3 whitewater this is the trip for you. The Dee is suitable for anyone comfortable on Symond’s Yat and Tryweryn for 3* or equivalent level paddlers who can roll. Accommodation will be at Bala Backpackers. Contact Anthony at anthony@nomadkayakclub.co.uk or on Facebook for details.

Sunday 17th July – Thames at Hurley and islands with Peter Scott

Moving water skills development on gentle moving water. This trip is suitable for anyone who can paddle competently on flat water. More details to follow shortly. Contact Peter at peter@nomadkayakclub.co.uk or on Facebook for further details.

20th-21st August – Dee and/or Tryweryn (upper and lower) with Anthony Sterling

A return to north Wales whitewater as above. Contact Anthony at anthony@nomadkayakclub.co.uk or on Facebook for details.

Canoe Polo Rules Resources
The ICF have published a very useful rules training resource for the international ruleset. Particularly useful is the 2016 Focus training which highlights how the new illegal possession and restart rules work.

The BCU rules that our national leagues follow (which are almost identical to the ICF rules) can be found on the canoepolo.org.uk website.

Membership Reminder
Just a quick reminder to those Nomad members who haven’t renewed for 2016 yet, please do so before the end of May or a late payment fee will apply.

Membership forms are available in the shed and online. You can also sign up using our online membership system.
